Just In... Richie Ray & Bobby Cruz A Lifetime Of Hits Toda Una Vida De xitos Live At Centro De Bellas Artes, San Juan Puerto Rico: DVD (Tropisounds) Celebrating an amazing career in salsa, Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz got together once again to give the people what they want — killer crescendo building anthems that reverberate with hooks from the golden age of salsa. With tracks like "La Zafra", "Bomba Camara", "Richie's Jala Jala", "Sonido Bestial", "Soy Boricua" and "Mi Bandera" a more history filled show would be hard to imagine. About 20 tracks (yes, 20). With a cracker-jack band that features Edwin Clemente on timbales and a coro section with Primi Cruz, Darvel Garcia, Carlos Llamosa, Charlie Torres and other. Recorded live at the Sala Antonio Paoli in the Centro Bellas Artes in Puerto Rico in San Juan on June 25th, 2006, the concert is a landmark in that it also marks the 25th anniversary of the famed concert hall. This is the DVD. Also available as a 2-CD set . Highly Recommended. (BP, 13-Dec-06) More details Click here to Order Now! David Calzado Y Su Charanga Habanera Popular! DVD (Jenpaz Films) Finally, a well-shot, mostly well thought-out documentary on Cuban music, the sort of work that can be used to explain what all the fuss is about. Using the hugely popular, and hugely controversial, and hugely talented Charanga Habanera, as a guide, the documentary takes on some of the biggest themes in Cuban music and in popular culture and music, going in and nosing around subjects that are often overlooked, politically risky for us from the left... The film follows the band around, moving to Japan for a show, then catching them at fancy concerts, and at workers parties, government gigs for workers — in this case construction workers in the foreigner only resort area of Varadero. The music is often stunning; Jennifer Paz, the director, has shot the band professionally (though the sound isn't always up to the visuals), and all the band's routines are clearly delineated, the rhythm and blues dance moves, the intro routines, the breaks where the band draws big women up and makes them shake their... (Read Peter Watrous' entire review here ) Feature runtime: 75 min. Extras: 14 min approx. Special Bonus Extras in this version: ‧ Charanga Behind-the-Scenes in Europe ‧ Special exerpt of banned performance ‧ Extra concert material in Japan ‧ Scene selection, interactive menus ‧ "Esta es mi Charanga" Live in Lenin Park With commentary by David Calzado, Juan De Marcos, Chucho Valdes and Haila Mompie. Directed by Jennifer Paz Highly Recommended. (BP, 29-Oct-06) More details Click here to Order Now!

The Return of FANIA! We are happy to offer the new digitally remastered reissues from the classic salsa label, Fania. Brought to you by Emusica, which, over time, will be reissuing the entire catalog with improved sound and superb liner notes too - some of which are written by Descarga.com's own virtually resident scholar, John Child. Many of these new reissues have been remastered by Jon Fausty or Bob Katz, so even if you already own the older CD version you might want to consider upgrading to the new improved edition. They're even less expensive than the originals were! Good news all around. Highly Recommended. Click HERE to view all of the NEWLY REMASTERED Fania classics! Latest batch 02/12/07: In Stock Now! Place your order now!

TOP NEWS! FANIA in TRANSITION... The recent acquisition of Fania and its related labels (Fania, Alegre, Cotique, Vaya, Tico, Inca, Barbaro, Mardi-Gras etc.) will mean that this large, historically significant, catalog of titles will be in scarce supply until they are reissued. They are going fast. We strongly urge any of you who are considering anything from those labels to place your order while supplies last. Click HERE to view these important titles.
